Malaria clinical service delivery improvement project for private for profits facilities (PFPs)

The UPMA, as a subcontractor to the USAID’S Malaria Action Program for Districts (MAPD) is scheduled to conduct capacity building through malaria services standards implementation, supervision and training to ensure that professional standards are met, and sustained in private for profit health practitioners among its members facilities in USAID’S focal districts of Mukono, Luwero, Kayunga, Mpigi, Mityana, Kyotera, Bukomansimbi, Masaka, Kalungu and Lwengo for a period of one year.

The main objectives of the project are;

Malaria prevention and treatment services, through the private for profit (PFP) strengthened, based on national case management and malaria in pregnancy guidelines.

Malaria services provision by the PFP sector documentation and reporting through DHIS strengthened.

The PFP sector supported to update the professional registration status and abide by the regulations, in collaboration with DHO and professional regulatory bodies


  1. 56 midwives facilities were identified from 10 districts

  2. trainers were identified; 5 from MOH – NMCP and 3 from UPMA

  3. 54 midwives from above district trained in integrated malaria management

  4. 48 midwives participated in SQIS assessment

  5. Support supervision visits were done to 48 facilities

  6. Gender and youth integration orientation was also carried out among 49 midwives

  7. Stakeholders mid-point reviewed meeting was held at UPMA and members were able to get in touch with their DHO’s

  8. Criteria for accrediting UPMA facilities as approved malaria service providers was established and presented in the malaria case management TWG and it was approved for use.
