THE RECHITT BECKINSER DETTOL PROJECT
With focus on Primary Health care (PHC), The Rechitt Beckinser project is a collaboration between UPMA and Reckitt Benckiser (manufacturers of Dettol). It is focused on the use of PHAST (Participatory Hygiene and Sanitation Transformation) methodology for hygiene training in schools. The underlying principle in this project is to educate the pupils of the chosen primary schools on the purpose of sanitation in their lives, and, to empower them to prevent sanitation related sicknesses and infections. The districts involved were Wakiso, Mbarara, and Mukono. It also involves production of mama kits and other assorted data records cards.
The objectives are;
Conduct hygiene campaigns in 4 selected Primary Schools in Kampala and neighboring Districts within 50kms radius to promote positive hygiene practices among pupils
Produce a minimum of 500 mama packs to contribute to safe motherhood among pregnant women at delivery time.
Produce an assortment of data/records capture cards and forms to support data recording and reporting by midwives’ health facilities.
Monitoring and evaluation of activities for the projects.
Hygiene and sanitation sessions in the four primary schools have been carried out.
Formation of clubs in schools where hygiene sensitization had not taken place.
Planning for the final sessions and award giving to best performing student in maintaining personal hygiene.
